In this blog, I would like to discuss on making your job interesting. It might be 25 hours a week or 40 hours a week or it could be less than that depending on what job you do. Work doesn’t have to be boring. It can be interesting.
In my Amazon Kindle book Applying Your Own Interests to Your Boring Job: Can It Be Done? I discuss on how a boring job can be interesting. Work doesn’t have to be bound by the mundane tasks you do at work. It can be interesting and there can be a balance.
I’ve had a few jobs before one as a notetaker for students with disabilities in school, another working in retail where I learned to communicate with authority figures that helped me become a more assertive person at work.
You can take the attitude that the job doesn’t matter, but it is something that you do for at least 4 days or more a week. You can learn the important skills that will help you get to where you need to go in life.
It might not be the job you want, but you can take the bits and pieces that will help you with each job. One skill may pertain to the other.
I remember before I felt my work life wasn’t accomplishing much. I was just making ends meet. This was at a time when I worked on my other job I am no longer with, but on the side, I worked on my writing. I started with blogs and then wrote Kindle books. This turned into a part-time job on top of my other job and it helps me fulfill my passions that I have with writing.
Now let me answer the elephant in the room how do you make your job interesting? A few simple steps:
- Ask for Mentors help: Mentors will help you to better your craft as a worker. It might not be the job you want, but they could teach you on different skills that will lead you into a better direction in life even if you don’t know what it is. I had a few mentors before at work, even if I didn’t realize it at the time, I still ask for their advice.
- Education: Maybe your work has different on job education you can take to learn. This helps give you better training that you need. Maybe this can help with another thing you want.
- Money: This can be an incentive even when companies match at least half of your retirement money in a 401 K or a 403 B (non-profit retirement equivalent). This money you make can fund your own business and whatever endeavors you wish.
These are some important keys to making a boring job interesting.
A job can be frustrating, but if you take the right approach and let it lead you to where you want to go in the future, then you can get the career that you want or even the lifestyle that you want. And you don’t have to be doing something you don’t want to do. You can do it part-time while you work on your dream.
